Ordinary carbon steel, also known as iron-carbon alloy, according to the carbon content, stainless steel drill tail screw is divided into low carbon steel (to be called ripe iron), medium carbon steel and cast iron. Generally, low carbon steel with less than 0.2% carbon content is called cooked iron or pure iron; steel with 0.2-1.7% carbon content is called steel; pig iron with more than 1.7% carbon content is called pig iron.

Stainless steel, which contains more than 12.5% chromium and has high resistance to corrosion of external media (acid, alkali salts), is called stainless steel. According to the structure of steel, stainless steel can be divided into martensite, ferrite, austenite, ferrite-austenite, precipitation hardening stainless steel. According to the national standard GB3280-92, there are 55 regulations.

In our daily life, we are exposed to two kinds of stainless steel: austenitic stainless steel (nickel stainless steel) and martensitic stainless steel (stainless steel), which are unscientific, easily misunderstood and should be avoided. The typical grades of austenitic stainless steel are 0Cr18Ni9, namely "304" and 1Cr18Ni9Ti. Martensitic stainless steel, such as stainless steel for making knives and scissors, has the main brands of 2Cr13, 3Cr13, 6Cr13, 7Cr17, etc.

Because of the difference of structure and composition between the two kinds of stainless steel, the metal microstructures inside the stainless steel are also different.

The internal structure of austenitic stainless steel is austenitic because of the addition of high chromium and nickel (containing about 18% of chromium and over 4% of nickel), which is not magnetic and cannot be attracted by magnets. They are often used as decorative materials, such as stainless steel tubes, towel racks, tableware, stoves, etc.

The martensitic stainless steel is used to make knife and scissors stainless steel. Because the knife and scissors have the function of shearing articles, sharpness and certain hardness. This kind of stainless steel can be used as scissors only after heat treatment to change its internal structure and increase its hardness. However, the internal structure of this kind of stainless steel is tempered martensite, which has magnetic conductivity and can be attracted by magnets. Therefore, it is not easy to explain whether the stainless steel material is magnetic or not.
